Assessment
Assessment is a fundamental tool in helping children to make progress, by identifying where they have succeeded and planning their next steps for learning. It takes place in a variety of forms, from daily assessment and discussion within lessons to national testing at the end of Key Stage Two. Although there is a strong focus on the assessment of the core subjects of English, Maths and Science, we believe in recognising all educational achievement and tracking progress against key objectives in all subjects.
At Boorley Park we use assessment to:
- Understand where a pupil is in the learning process and set aspirational targets for what they have the potential to achieve
- Encourage and motivate pupils by commenting on what has been done well.
- Set targets and next steps for future learning.
- Draw attention to improvements/corrections that can be made.
- Enter into a discussion with the pupil about their progress.
- Support achievement by recognising an individual's effort and progress.
- Provide feedback to the group; individuals; curriculum areas and the school.
- Focus teachers on those areas of learning where groups and individual learners need specific support.
- Inform curriculum planning and lesson planning.
- Evaluate individual, curriculum areas and school performance based upon attainment and levels of progress.
